Ester Ester is the inspiration behind ACES. Filipino by birth and now a UK citizen, it was the realisation that it was only due to her parents relative affluence and discipline that putting education first Ester has achieved all that she has. Ester is a nurse, and has worked abroad and in the UK for over 20 years in a variety of roles, including running her own nurse agency business. Currently she works part time in a nurse led rehabilitation centre - most of her time is spent looking after Felipe (and Philip!) She provides the 'eastern' half of the mixed cuisine enjoyed in the household. | Philip
Philip is UK born and bred. A nurse with almost 30 years experience, Philip currently travels the country as a senior manager for a nurses agency. He has worked in various posts as a nurse, both in the NHS and the independent healthcare sector. Until recently, he was also a semi-pro musician (age has caught up!) Before meeting Ester, he had never even been on an aeroplane, but now takes every opportunity to travel. An enthusiastic cook, Philip provides the 'western' half of the mixed cuisine enjoyed in the household. Much of his out of work time is spent looking after Felipe (and Ester!) | Jeanne
"Born in Birmingham in 1930 I was brought up in a working class family in the era of war and rations. Leaving school at 17 I was ushered into a nice safe job in the Bank, married at 23 and widowed at 59. My husband and I both wanted more to life than mundane "safety" so firstly we did Youth Work, then became Foster-parents. After having our first son we adopted a son and then a daughter. We then embarked on a career in Residential Child Care , working in Nottingham and Bedford with Adolesence plus a brief spell at an Observation and Assessment Centre. Eventually I left Social Services to work with Spugeon's Child Care doing a mixture of Resdiential and Field Work, working with young mothers and children. Since retiring 18 years ago I have been involved with our local Hospice, 15 years in their Charity Shop, with 6 years as Leader. I am still involved with the Hospice, Treetops in Risley,Derbys, mainly in the kitchen preparing meals for the guests (patients) and Staff. I am in good health, for which I Thank God daily, and enjoy being active and facing a challenge. My Hobbies include Computer, Crafts, my 3 Grandchildren and my pets (Jess a dog & Jasper a cat). My hope is that I can help to achieve all that Aces stands for. |
